Alerts on Discord

Every hazard this site can raise is also pushed to our Discord the moment it crosses a threshold, so you hear about it without keeping a tab open. Join the server and you get:

  • DHM river gauges at warning or danger level
  • Earthquakes in Nepal and along its border belt
  • BIPAD incidents with deaths or missing people
  • Volcano and GDACS alerts worldwide

Discord is a convenience, not a warning service. Delivery depends on Discord and on your own notification settings, and it can be late or fail silently. For any decision about your safety, follow DHM, NDRRMA and Nepal Police.

What we built first

During the 26 August 2026 Rasuwa–Bhote Koshi flood we wired three public sources into one map: DHM gauges, the compiled flood path, and Planet Crisis Response before/after imagery on Source Cooperative.

APIs in use

  • USGS real-time GeoJSON feeds — global earthquake magnitude, depth, location, review status, and source reports
  • NASA EONET — recent global natural-event metadata
  • DHM River Watch — the official live national station snapshot: water level, warning/danger thresholds, trend, basin, district, and timestamp
  • latest.json — bulletin ping
  • Planet STAC catalog.json — pre/post collections, visual COGs, thumbnails
  • DHM's detailed observation-history endpoint requires an API key. The station explorer therefore plots the verified current reading against published thresholds and never manufactures a historical line series.

GeoLibre

opengeos/GeoLibre is a full GIS workbench (MapLibre + DuckDB-WASM + Whitebox). We use the same MapLibre renderer and can overlay the same COGs. We did not fork GeoLibre into this public-safety UI — that would ship a desktop GIS instead of a phone-first hazard map. Analysts can open the Planet catalog in GeoLibre Web.
